Project Details
The UGI 29th St. Bridge Relocate gas main project consisted of one bore with 24″ Steel casing. The bore totaled 354 LF and crossed underneath Norfolk Southern Railroads and I-83 North & Southbound lanes. A 16″ gas main carrier was installed inside the 24″ steel casing. The relocation of the UGI gas main is part of the I-83 Expansion Project. Throughout the first 60′ of the bore, Aaron Enterprises’ crew encountered obstructions, boulders and limestone pinnacles during the guided pilot phase. When unable to advance further, a 36″ steel casing was installed and hand tunneled through to remove the obstructions on a 24/7 basis. Approximately 124′ of 36″ casing was installed. The 24″ steel casing was then inserted through the 36″ casing and was bored to the exit pit.
